M83 Readies New Album

M83 Talks "Very, Very, Very Epic" New Album

M83’s latest work was contributing a soundtrack to a French film L’Ature Mondem or Black Heaven. As it turns out, that wasn’t the best experience.

M83 (Anthony Gonzalez) told Pitchfork that it was a “shitty soundtrack” for a “shitty movie” that left him “pissed” in France.

Luckily for him (and us), he moved back to L.A. earlier this year and has been working hard on a follow-up to the 2008 hit Saturdays=Youth. He told Pitchfork that he already had more than 20 demos ready for the studio and that he looks to record with Vocalist Morgan Kibby and Bassist Justin Medal-Johnsen.

Gonzalez is shooting for a spring release for his latest album. Oh, he’s also working on another movie soundtrack. No word on whether this one will be described as “shitty.”

La Sera Debut LP, 7″ Out Now!

Since joining all-female punk trio Vivian Girls during the spring of 2007 Katy Goodman’s DIY-style bass playing and drifty-faded vocals have sent waves of adoration rippling throughout Brooklyn’s pop punk circuit. In February 2010 Goodman started working on some fresh material that inspired the formation of her brand new band, La Sera. Her inspiration sprung from an attraction to early pop hits from the 1950’s and ethereal choral vocals. Her new songs contain warm celestial-pop melodies that echo with the dreamlike effect of a church choir and effuse a softer, less aggressive sound than the Vivian Girls.

Hardly Art will release the full-length in early 2011, preceded by the limited 7″ for “Never Come Around” now.

Fujiya & Miyagi Release Music Video for “16 Shades of Black and Blue”

Photobucket
“16 Shades of Black Blue” is the newest release from alternative/electronica indie band Fujiya & Miyagi. Debuting as the first single off of upcoming album Ventriloquizzing, promises to be the most diverse of their albums so far. “We wanted to make a record that was different from anything we had done before,” says singer/guitarist David Best.

Much like other ground breaking bands like the Gorillaz, Fujiya & Miyagi use alternate personas- cleverly disguised dummies resembling themselves. With one look of the video, it is easy to see how the dummies add to the already cryptic and creepy slow pulse of the song. The whispered vocals cut in and out repeating over and over the chorus of the song as a man moves about in the shadows.

Kisses Remix One of Their Songs Called “Kisses”

LA duo Kisses are only a week past the release of their debut LP, The Heart of The Nightlife, but they found some time to remix the first song off the album, “Kisses.”  Titled the “Electric Sunset Remix,” the LA band consisting of Zinzi Edmundson and Jesse Kivel have managed to evoke the feeling of Miami Beach while sounding like a younger and more attractive version of Hot Chip.  In fact, Zinzi could give any girl in indie a run for the crown.  As far as the music goes, “Kisses” flashes bright colors at you, rounded and full, that bounce around and calmly pulsate in an effortless synchronicity.  Even with the high hat synth beat driving along, the track is a slow burn that at once can make you tired and dreamy.

Jesse Harris Doubles Up

Releasing two albums in one year is no easy feat, but that’s precisely what Jesse Harris has done in 2010. After releasing Through the Night in August of this year, Harris unveiled an album on instrumentals, entitled Cosmo, in September.

Harris recently released a music video for the song “Little Star,” off of Cosmo, which we’ve included down below. And, for those of you interested in hearing what Through the Night sounds like, download the song “Its a Long Way Just to Say Hello” HERE.
