Midnight Spin Debuts Video for “Trigger Finger Itch”

On the heels of their well-received EP, Through the Mojo Wire, Brooklynites Midnight Spin do what quirky musically inclined Brooklnyers oft do…make music videos about “cereal killers” who jeopardize the breakfast pleasures of residents in Mojo City.

Directed by Kevin Miller at Comedy Central Studios, “Trigger Finger Itch” is the bands first video with Miller and offers a healthy dose of humor and hooks as fans wait for their forthcoming full-length debut album on the way.

And watch out for cereal killers:

Isobel Campbell Video Premieres on Pitchfork

“No Place to Fall” was originally recorded by legendary singer/songwriter, the late Towns Van Zandt in 1978. In a gorgeous rendition alongside Willy Mason, Isobel Campbell delivers a stunning homage to the beloved Van Zandt on Pitchfork. And of course, do yourself a favor and watch the original version linked below as well.

Icelandic Composer Ólafur Arnalds Announces US Tour Dates

People in Iceland are not like people on the rest of the planet. Don’t try to understand it, just embrace that we may in fact be living amongst aliens—really, really interesting aliens. You can’t really talk about Icelandic musicians without mentioning Bjork or Sigur Ros, and now that that’s done, let’s discuss Iceland’s Ólafur Arnalds.

The 23-year old composer’s work has been called ” robust yet ethereal, mid-tempo tearjerker” (Pitchfork) and Filter magazine says Arnalds “will only increase in importance.”

Arnalds returns to the US for a winter tour in early 2011. There’s an online contest where fans who “share” show info can win tickets. Check out the info at: http://www.olafurarnalds.com

Jonquil’s Oxford Invasion

Oxford England’s Jonquil are not the Beatles, but they are British, and coming to America. Hugo Manuel, Sam Hudson Scott and Robin McDiarmid have been rehearsing and recording in their studio, aka their UK flat.

As a leading sound in Oxford’s Blessing Force collective, alongside Pet Moon, Trophy Wife, Fixers, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs and Chad Valley (Jonquil’s own Hugo Manuel), Jonquil brings an exciting and new sound to pop music. Influences of The Smiths, Paul Simon and Mark Ronson, they deliver a royal slice of indie-pop.

Releasing their single, “Fighting Smiles” on RCRD LBL, a vinyl version of their EP, One Hundred Suns is available now and will be released on vinyl in January 2011. Jonquil are slated to perform at SXSW in March 2011, perhaps even adding some US dates. Check ’em out here: Nylon Free Music Download “Fighting Smiles.”
