Darryl Kissick Comes to Life with “My Sunshine”

Darryl Kissick of the band Foxwarren lives in Regina, Saskatchewan. On October 8, Kissick released a solo full-length album titled My Sunshine. The album was mixed by Jon Anderson (Andy Shauf, Aidan Knight, etc.) and mastered by Philip Shaw Bova (Bahamas, Lido Pimienta, etc.).  Artwork by Darryl’s father, Larry Kissick. The album came from a long, tedious self-produced process, one that really could have had no end, except for when he stopped recording.

“I began recording this album many years ago and struggled to finish it.  The ideas would accumulate in bursts and then sit untouched for months at a time as work and family commitments took precedent.  Finally, after releasing and touring behind the last Foxwarren album, I felt inspired to finish this project.  Beginning in the summer of 2019, I began trudging through old hard drives, compiling tracks, rewriting lyrics, manipulating vocals and instruments, and ultimately trying to make sense of the dozens of songs I had started.”

CODA FACTO Deliver the Goods with “Jamesville”

Hamilton’s CODA FACTO released their anticipated Jamesville EP on October 1st, a collection of songs which blend their melodic Brit-Rock and Americana influenced leanings with a strong narrative voice.

The EP features focus track, “She,” a gentle acoustic ballad which crescendos into a lush, string laden dedication.

The song embraces the overwhelming emotions that come with falling in love. “I wanted people to feel the urge to hold their loved-one close,” explains vocalist and songwriter, Alexander DeRoo. “[“She” is] a song that could live forever, like true love.”

A Timeless Surprise – Americana folk-rock from debut artist Alan Goins

Tennessee based singer and songwriter Alan Goins has just released his debut album “By The Moon”, out now!

Alan is a folk rock Americana singer-songwriter whose songs ooze romanticism and classic folk rock.

The song “By The Moon” from the title track of the album is a love song about what could have happened if. Reminiscent of an Irish folk love song, there is a lilting guitar melody and Goins’ vocal range reaches high notes easily and with heartfelt emotion.

“Girl Across The Sea” is equally romantic, about love found and lost. The piano and vocal harmonies lend a richer feel. This album is both delightful and a surprise, each song carrying a story that everyone can relate to.

Tara Novak Personifies a Memory In New Video For “Can I Ever Go Home”

Classically trained violinist Tara Novak wondered what her life would be like and who she would be if she stopped playing the violin. Despite her years of training, she dropped out of college to find out who she was without music and what she found was that there was more to music than just the classical world. She discovered rock, pop, folk, and dance music and embraced them, like old friends. That’s when she started writing her own music. By doing that she found herself, saying “I write songs because it allows me to process the world I observe. Music opens our hearts and minds. Music connects us all. I hope that my music can help carry you on your journey, and that somewhere in the world, our paths and hearts will meet.”

She just released the video for her memorable and powerful song “Can I Ever Go Home.” This soft rock folk song is all about finding a ‘home’ within ourselves. She tells the story of the pull of nostalgia versus the changes we’ve made in our lives, the growth we’ve made as individuals. As much as we want to go back, it’s no longer real.

The video is a visualization of the metaphor she sings about. She guides us through an old house and shows us how it becomes but a distant memory. She explains that “for the video, we wanted to focus on the nostalgia aspect of ‘home.’ We spent days rummaging through antique stores to find things that are symbols of home – a ring of keys, an old teacup, some jewelry. We used lots of shots of places where people spend time and have memories – the house, the barn, the hallway, the piano, the violin, the journal, etc. The video is full of remembrance – opening the door to the house, picking flowers, holding items that have personal meaning – all things that we tend to do when thinking of home. But the video is also about a journey – both literal (in the movement through the field and trees) and figurative (in the moments of thinking and the changing light/colors). It is searching for ‘home’ and ultimately realizing we have been there all along.”

“Can I Ever Go Home” is a beautiful song and the video is ripe with poetic metaphors. Both accompany each other masterfully. Tara Novak is able to personify memory in a way that nobody has thought about before. Be sure to check out the video for “Can I Ever Come Home” now and listen to the song everywhere.

Alex Southey Charms with Epic New Release

Alex Southey (he/him) is a singer-songwriter based in Toronto/Tkaronto, ON. His sole tour (due to the COVID-19 pandemic) consisted of six dates throughout his hometown and Montreal. Titled the Day Like It’s Night Tour, the profits raised (over $1,200)  were donated to the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH).

Southey’s new My Nights On the Island EP offers a six song revision of a break up that breaks the mould of what one would traditionally ascribe to a singer-songwriter’s record of lost love. The EP feels like a sonic-cinematic journey; a short film of songs carefully crafted with orchestral flourishes and soundscapes that Southey drew from memory in his teenage years – sounds that intentionally weave the songs together and act as essential supporting cast to the leads of voice and guitar and even threaten to create sequels of their own.
