Pyramid Theory Is a Delight with New Single

Screen Shot 2020-02-18 at 8.05.21 PM

Fueled by late nights in basement studios and frequent runs to the local café for coffee, Pyramid Tropic is a study in contrasts. The group’s music is percussive, synth-based dance music. One member is known as the singer/songwriter of a Toronto-based indie pop band while the other is recognized for designing music production software used by programmers working with Bjork, Coldplay and Depeche Mode. Their single comes in the delightful form of “Last Forever,” which caught our attention.

The chemistry was instant and the creative rush resulted in a flood of tracks being completed in their respective studios. The initial reaction to their music was positive with The Wild Honey Pie describing first single, My Destroyer, as a “dirty synth pop gem”. Sensing that this was a completely new musical direction for them, the duo has performed mainly in Europe at the legendary electronic club Katine am Berghain in Berlin, the Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg, the Great Escape Festival in Brighton, the Water Rats Theatre in London and for the Toronto International Film Festival. A series of singles, EPs and remixes will be released in 2020.

James Blonde is a Band to Watch in 2020

jamesblonde

James Blonde is more than the sum of its parts; the Canadian alternative / rock band was born when Neil Carson, Phil Taylor and Steph Mercier came together to form the singular entity known by this name. The band acts as a conduit, taking inspiration from the turn of 21st century’s rock resurgeance of bands like Muse, Arctic Monkeys, Franz Ferdinand, Billy Talent & MGMT with the great classic rock bands, to pump out electric performances both on stage and in the studio. Their new single “Hundred Bucks,” has become an instant favorite…as it will for you as well.

The band kicked off their first concert as James Blonde in their hometown of Niagara Falls for NYE 2017, opening for Sam Roberts Band and Serena Ryder. However, the trio had already been together for years under an old moniker, touring the country and playing major festivals like Osheaga, Edgefest and CMW.

James Blonde’s first album (self-titled) was released in 2017, with the lead single “Heartbreak” getting picked up by major Spotify playlists and Starbucks, which added the song to it’s in-store radio across the globe. “Sh!tshow”, the bands follow-up single in 2019, reached #96 on the US Top 40 charts. The last few years have seen the band become an indie touring juggernaut, having played extensively across Canada and the USA from coast to coast, delivering high-octane performances, precise musicianship and memorable moments for fans at every show. But that was then, and this is now: James Blonde is currently working on a new record, which will be released in the form of singles over the next couple years as the band continues to tour all over North America

Odario Lights It Up with New Single

Odario-Press-Roof-PhotoCredit-JasonCipparrone-620x400

Odrario releases his epic new single and video “Low Light (In This Space)” for the delight of our ears.

Odario recently shared with Canadian Beats of the track:

“In this space we know nothing…but we can learn a little something if we try’. That opening line was written as a reminder to always try to leave the ego at the door when entering a new space in my life. I feel, as everyday people, we spend too much time and energy pointing out the negative aspects of our differences. As I wrote this song I imagined us, as community, clicking delete on what we perceive as our differences and encourage one another to embrace our similarities as humans. With that comes emotion, something we all embrace together. The gospel of anger…a hunt for an answer. This song is a new space for you to reflect, release and get down low. Vancouver gospel singer Dawn Pemberton put me in a trance when listening back to the final recording. I admire her powerful vocal delivery over the master production of Alister Johnson. We came to get down, and pick you up.”

Odario is the leader and MC of live hip hop band, Grand Analog. He is also the host of CBC’s national afterdark radio show. He was prominently featured on A Tribe Called Red’s single Ba-Na-Na along with Haviah Mighty as well as the video. He was similarly featured on Ghost Caravan’s single Damn You and, again, in the video.

Jack Moves Releases Infectious New Track

JACKMOVES_GALLERIA-2387

Jack Moves got his start late in 2014. A Member of Toronto metal groups Godstopper and Ayahuasca and a former member of hardcore act Column of Heaven, he had grown tired of working within the limits of heavy music, and so decided to strike out on his own. His new single “Don’t Let the Moon Die Young,” is a bold and intriguing direction for the artist.

Listen in here:

Inspired by live looping performances of Reggie Watts, Jack started busking at the corner of Queen and Spadina in downtown Toronto. As a one-man band with a captivating and crowd-pleasing live show, he quickly started playing a wide variety of venues, from clubs to parties to tattoo shops to Portuguese restaurants; sharing the stage with hip hop artists, electronic producers (he is the host and DJ for the monthly concert series “Frequencies”), metal and post-hardcore bands, and many others. He also ran a weekly-updated live looping youtube channel from 2015-2018.

With his first EP, I Go to Work, Jack distilled his live show, which at the time involved  him creating all the music live, using just his voice and a looping pedal. His first full east-coast Canadian tour followed.

Then, in 2017, Jack emerged with a new ep, I Been Working. It showcased an expansion of his palette, which now included a far vaster array of electronic sounds. Vocal-based live looping, although not as prominent in his recorded output going forward, remained an important element in his live show.

Speaking of shows, Jack followed up the release of I Been Working with a spring tour of Europe that saw him travel across ten countries, with a highlight of opening up for experimental hip hop legends Dälek in Budapest. Following that, it was back home to Canada for another east coast tour with fellow weirdo solo act/MC, Garbageface. A few singles followed, showcasing Jack’s trademark diversity…80’s-influenced melodies here (“Demon Eyes”), demented choral parts there (“Moment of your Time”), and straight up hip hop bars over there (“Emilia”), and in turn saw him receive praise from the likes of Earmilk, the CBC, and Alan Cross’ A Journal of Musical Things. A return visit to Europe at the end of the same year saw him further solidify his fan base abroad.

Later 2018 saw him make an appearance at Follyfest 10 in New Brunswick, and a third visit to Europe in the fall; at around which point he released the EP I’m Insane, a collection of Ozzy Osbourne covers redone in his unique style.

As 2020 begins, Jack is happy to announce his first full-length album, Passing Protagonists, is soon to come, and will feature further electronic experimentation, richer harmonies, more novel blends of genre and a loose concept revolving around the comedic absurdity of the “western” experience.
