The Drums Co-Headline Fall Tour with Surfer Blood

….yep and our little heads just exploded. Two of the hottest bands to come out of the indie scene in quite some time have announced that they will be doing a co-headlining tour in the fall with each other. The Drums, who started gaining attention at CMJ 2008, and Surfer Blood, who started being a blogger’s dream at CMJ 2009 (Yea we did their first ever interview. Jealous?), are taking the nation by storm for about two solid months. Hipsters everywhere are celebrating we’re sure of it. Since their CMJ hype, The Drums have become one of the most talked about band in the UK and Surfer Blood have become the most notable band of the year with their debut, Astrocoast (Kanine).

The tickets will be on sale TOMORROW MORNING, and they are expected to go fast. This may be the hottest show of the fall. The Drums and Surfer Blood hit up Webster Hall in NYC on October 22nd. This does sound like a CMJ showcase to us. Why not? It’s what launched both of them in a big way. Surfer Blood is also set to play NYC on October 19th, the first day of CMJ. Hmmmm…..

You can get your tickets starting tomorrow here at thedrumsandsurferblood.com

Fall never felt so good.

Kevin Barnes Guest Appears on a New Track

It’s already a big year for Of Montreal’s frontman, Kevin Barnes, and the band hasn’t even released their record False Priest (Polyvinyl) yet. Appearing on Chuck Lightning’s compiliation, Barnes sings “Depraved Valet,” a silky jam by Wondaland artist, Roman GianArthur. No, I have no idea who that is either. But, Mr. Barnes is on it so it’s bound to be good, right?

Kevin stated on Stereogum that “Roman GianArthur is gonna be the story of 2011, he is a musical genius, a brilliant arranger, writer, performer … he’s probably a good cook as well. Just you wait Henry Higgins, just you wait — when his album drops, people are gonna drop their groceries!”

Barnes is usually right on the money with his musical predictions. Can we say Janelle Monae? Take a listen to and download the new track below. Get ready for more OM to come this year. It’s going to be a good one.

Of Montreal will also be on tour this fall with Janelle. Take a peak at the tour dates. You can get all of your False Priest preorder goodies over at the Polyvinyl Webstore.

Drew Danburry ‘Memorial Day’

Just when you didn’t think we could find a song about Memorial Day we proved you wrong. Indie artist Drew Danburry who has just recently toured with those lovely lads in Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin, hasn’t always had it easy when he comes to music (remember his disaster of a tour in 2008?), but it doesn’t stop him from making brilliant songs. We’re sure he is of the very few musicians to have a song about Memorial Day (at least that we know of). Maybe he wrote it just for that reason.
