Kisses Plan West Coast Tour

“Great pop music is about escape. Kisses is about entering into another world,” says the band’s lead singer Jesse Kivel. “I used to go to indie clubs where people would only dance to song if they knew who it was by. It was so cliquey and lacking genuine emotion. I wanted to get away from false sentiment and use a different aesthetic” he explains. This March, Kivel’s hoping that fans will come out and experience Kisses firsthand, when the band embarks on a West Coast tour. Below we have the dates of said tour and a new remix of Kisses’ “Midnight Lover.”

West Coast Tour Dates

03/04 Portland, OR – Peter’s Room

03/05 Vancouver, BC – Biltmore

03/06 Seattle, WA – Vera Project

03/08 San Francisco, CA – Rickshaw Stop

Kisses – Midnight Lover (Clancy Remix) by WesleyAmbrecht

Kisses Remix One of Their Songs Called “Kisses”

LA duo Kisses are only a week past the release of their debut LP, The Heart of The Nightlife, but they found some time to remix the first song off the album, “Kisses.”  Titled the “Electric Sunset Remix,” the LA band consisting of Zinzi Edmundson and Jesse Kivel have managed to evoke the feeling of Miami Beach while sounding like a younger and more attractive version of Hot Chip.  In fact, Zinzi could give any girl in indie a run for the crown.  As far as the music goes, “Kisses” flashes bright colors at you, rounded and full, that bounce around and calmly pulsate in an effortless synchronicity.  Even with the high hat synth beat driving along, the track is a slow burn that at once can make you tired and dreamy.

Kisses, the dream pop duo from Los Angeles, announced last week that they will embark on a seven city west coast tour that began Friday night in San Diego, CA. Tonight they play Crepe Place in Santa Cruz, CA. The tour is in support of their debut release The Heart of the Nightlife which will be released in the U.S. on November, 16th. The album has already come out in the UK to glowing reviews.

Kisses is made up of lead singer and songwriter Jesse Kivel and Zinzi Edmundson, keyboards and backing vocals. Together they have created a sound reminiscent of early days of new wave music with a hint of ‘70s disco thrown into the mix while at the same time keeping their sound very current and fresh. Front man Kivel says that he likes to write songs that take people out of their every day lives.

“Great pop music is about escape. Kisses is about entering into another world,” Kivel explained.

Kisses Debut New Track

“I want to write songs that take people out of their everyday lives” says Kisses lead singer Jesse Kivel. Put Kisses debut album Heart Of The Nightlife on the stereo and you’ll know what he means.

Recorded in his garage over the course of a month, Heart Of The Nightlife, manages to sound both happy and maudlin at the same time. “I’ve always been able to capture sadness more easily in my songwriting than euphoria.  [The songs] they’re bittersweet.”

Heart Of The Nightlife is set for release on November 16th, 2010. But, Kisses recently made the album’s first single available for free download, and they’re embarking on a tour later this month. As always, the dates are down below.
