Toro Y Moi Peak Underneath The Pine

When South Carolina’s Chaz Bundick (aka Toro Y Moi) signed to Carpark Records in late 2009, his plan was to release two records in 2010. His electronic debut, Causers of This, hit shelves in January of last year. But, his followup was pushed. Entitled Underneath the Pine, the album is set for release on February 22, 2011.

Unlike Causers of Them, Underneath the Pine, features almost entirely live instrumentation. This creates a homespun sound, which is different for Toro Y Moi. Later this month, Toro Y Moi is headed out on tour (dates down below).

Toro Y Moi ‘s “Underneath the Pine” Releasing February 2011

2009 was a good year for Toro Y Moi (aka Chaz Bundick). His debut, Causers of This, was met with critical acclaim. The South Carolina native delivered a homemade gem blending 80’s R&B, hip hop, pop all perfectly layered for the dance floor.

Still reeling from the success of Causers of This, Toro Y Moi is back with Underneath the Pine on Carpark Records. Following his creative urges, this latest record draws on influences including Ennio, Morricone and Francois de Roubaix resulting in a lush soundscape reminiscent of R. Steve Moore, David Axelrod and Steve Reich.

Clearly marking a new phase of exploration and expression, Tory Y Moi’s Underneath the Pine delivers unexpected levels of artistry and ability. Look for the release in February 2011.

Carpark Records Signs Young Magic

ym

Carpark Records, which is already home to acts like Panda Bear and Indian Jewelry, have now added Young Magic to their continuously growing roster.

Australian import Young Magic, made up of Isaac, a portable studio and numerous friends, currently resides in New York City.  For the last six months, Young Magic has been recording songs in various places to add to the song’s unique and organic psychedelic sound.  Sounds sampled from old spy bases in Berlin to children’s playgrounds in Melbourne to flats in New York City were all integrated into creating these songs.  In Young Magic’s first single, “You With Air”, the listener is taken on a journey to a place where young children are playing and laughing while Isaac’s vocals add a layer of soul creating a perfect combination of modern-day drum beats and matter of fact lyrics.

Young Magic will be releasing its debut single, “You With Air” backed with “Sparkly”, digitally and in a 7” vinyl format February 8, 2011 on Carpark Records.
