Canadian band Leahy’s brand new album, Good Water, brings the five women of the group – Leahy sisters Julie, Erin, Maria, Siobheann, and Denise – freshly to the fore, in singing and especially songwriting, along with brother Frank on drums, and introduces the newest addition to the band, Xavier, son of Frank, on accordion.  

As the songs on Good Water took shape, a new edge to the band’s sound began to emerge with the addition of electric guitars which spurred them on to explore the outer edges of their traditional/Celtic/folk/roots musical origins, pushing well beyond that footing.

The record’s latest single, “Tears,” is another colour and sensibility in Leahy’s music journey. It reflects the fact that the band members are influenced by so many different genres and this comes out in different ways. Here is a nod to a rock style – with a very heartfelt deep lyric. It’s a beautiful contrast that is not soft and not hard – it’s grounded which is consistent with their sound over the years. 

Fazi, aka FVZ, is a house and pop artist, DJ & producer of Persian descent based in Toronto, ON. Performing sets at major Ibiza nightclubs including Destino Pacha and Swag, FVZ’s high-energy style has electrified audiences worldwide.

His upbeat, debut single, “On My Way (OMW)” (feat. Siera), is about not letting distractions get in the way of your true purpose in life. By becoming a strong, independent person with a success-oriented mindset, there is very little that can stop you from reaching your dreams.

Moe Chaieb is a Montreal-based producer whose music meets at the intersection of moody and groovy. With strong influences from the worlds of house, R&B and pop, his synth melodies are designed to evoke feelings beyond those sparked by beating kicks and rhythmic basslines. 

Immerse yourself fully into Chaieb’s universe with his visual art inspired by Swiss modernist graphic designers, such as Odermatt, Tissi and Brockmann, as well as leaders in the Light and Space movement, like James Turrell.

“Fly Off” (feat. Claire Ridgely), the first single to be shared from Chaieb’s forthcoming Here You Can Leave Me EP (out next month), is an ode to letting go. Release your inhibitions with that special someone, even if it’s just for a night.

Since their inception, Colour Tongues have taken hits and weathered storms, both literally and figuratively, and they’re still alive to tell the story. Boasting a nurse, a carpenter, an actor, and a dog walker, the band combines elements of math and progressive rock with dreamy indie pop.

Taking great caution during the pandemic and keeping active during lockdown, Colour Tongues completed work on their debut Midnight Island LP (set for release later this year) with producer Matty D, and performed many unplugged Facebook Live gigs.

Lauryn Macfarlane has been recognized as a bewitching storyteller, drawing inspiration from her own experiences and struggles as an empath with an unceasing flow of emotion. Relocating to Montreal, Quebec, granted Lauryn the opportunity to work alongside producer/engineer Sam Woywitka (Luca Fogale, Half Moon Run) and musicians Isaac Symonds (Half Moon Run), Mishka Stein (Patrick Watson), and Robbie Kuster (Patrick Watson) on her debut EP. 

Following on the heels of her debut single, “Friendly,” Lauryn showcases a different style of writing on “Nowhere Town,” the latest offering from her forthcoming collection. A realization that you’ve outgrown your small hometown, the song also retaliates those who don’t deem the faith and beliefs of others to be valid. 

Nathan Lawr came up as a drummer-for-hire during the Toronto indie rock heyday that spawned the likes of Broken Social Scene and Feist, drumming for seminal Three Gut Records’ bands Royal City and Sea Snakes. In 2000, he started writing his own tenderly clever folk songs, releasing a series of critically-lauded solo albums. In 2010, Lawr ditched the songwriting thing for the more expansive sound of Minotaurs, spending the next 10 years writing, recording, and performing with an 8-10piece indie funk band. During those years, he cut his teeth as a producer and band leader. Now, after spending almost a decade as a stay-at-home dad, Lawr has come into his own, finding his voice as a crooner once again. “Apocalypse Marshmallow,” the title track of his forthcoming new album, is a chaotic blend of Brian Eno production and classic rock vibes. It’s about the joyful chaos of parenthood and the imperfections and challenges of being a part of a family.
