The Beets Announce Tour With Eternal Summers, Release New Song

More and more bands from Queens have been popping up, hoping to unseat Brooklyn as the New York borough with the most happening scene. Jackson Heights natives, The Beets, are the brainchild of Uruguay born frontman Juan Wauters and best friend Jose Garcia, creating lo-fi pop songs more remniscient of a time lost than the current New York scene. With their second album, Stay Home, in stores already, the band have set up a tour with friends Eternal Summers. Look for them on the road the next two months and check out the new song “Time Brought Age.”

Sonny And The Sunsets Shares New B-Side, Festival Dates

Sonny Smith’s musical bio sounds a bit like Brian Wilson’s. Smith found his passion for music while a patient in a hospital in Texas. After being released to the care of his brother and wife (who would join the band), he moved to San Francisco, found himself back in psychiatric care, met a girl (Kelley Stoltz) who played drums, asked her to join the band with his brother and wife and voila! Back in 2009, while recording a triple album, a hurricane hit the area they were recording and destroyed most of the tapes. What survives of those tapes was released yesterday, April 12th, as the album Hit After Hit on Fat Possum. Their 7″ featuring the song “I Wanna Do It” comes with the surfy B-Side “Mr. Lucky.”

Hunx and His Punx, that mixture of 50s teenage rock n roll, 60s girl groups and bubblegum pop, are finally releasing a proper album after 2009’s Gay Singles LP (Matador/True Panther Sounds), which was a collection of hard-to-find and out-of-print 7″ singles. The Album, Too Young To Be In Love, has a release date of March 29, 2011 through Hardly Art. The foursome will take their “Deliciously trashy homoerotic pop” (Pitchfork) on the road in April after a date at SXSW.

Xray Eyeballs To Release Debut Album On Kanine Records

Xray Eyeballs, the lovechild of frontman O.J. San Felipe, look to April 19th as the day they drop their debut LP Not Nothing on the world. The Brooklyn fivesome want to make every song sound like a lullaby...(but) not all happy lullabies either. I think people like songs they can relate to, with things like love, loss, dark vices, and sex,” says O.J. Drawing comparisons to the frantic pop of Jay Reatard and the Urinals, and the moodiness of Velvet Underground and Jesus and Mary Chain, Xray Eyeballs hope to render it all their own.

The Booze Announce New Album, Free MP3 and Tour

These days, it’s not enough to merely claim The Rolling Stones and The Kinks as influences. Everyone loves The Stones and Kinks, thanks to Martin Scorsese and Wes Anderson films, respectively, just like every band claims to be influenced by such 60’s and 70’s music. Yet, The Booze make it all believable. Having toured as Muddy Waters Jr.’s backing band and opening act, this Southern Rock outfit have etched out their own soundmarrying a motherlode of 60s R&B/Mod with a Stonesy switchblade swagger.” My Old Kentucky Blog. The new album, At Maximum Volume, is slated to be released March 8th on Underrated Records. Look for them on tour with label-mates The Biters, along with a date at SXSW 2011.
