With Wall Street Blues, Sanjay Michael channels the spirit of classic rock and blues, producing a short but satisfying EP that celebrates the joy of playing guitar-driven music. Across three tracks, Michael nods to his influences—AC/DC, Thin Lizzy, BB King, and the Rolling Stones—without ever losing his own voice.
The EP opens with “Baby Baby,” a song born from simplification and rehearsal, where stripped-down riffs and straightforward lyrics create an immediacy that hits hard. The title track delivers a darker, more sinister edge, balancing bluesy riffs with rock swagger. “Who’ll Be My Friend” slows things down, leaning on BB King-style phrasing and heartfelt lyricism, demonstrating Michael’s ability to shift moods while keeping the guitar front and center.
Michael himself frames the project as an exercise in clarity and focus: “Wall Street Blues was originally recorded for my Rocking into Midnight album but it didn’t seem to belong alongside those 10 songs… practicing and jamming with my band made me simplify my riffs and lyrics, and out of those sessions Baby Baby was born.” That intent to distill his music to its essential elements shows in the EP’s tight pacing and direct impact.
Recorded across sessions in Singapore and Sydney, the production is crisp yet unpretentious. Michael handles vocals and the majority of the instrumentation, with support from drummers Joel Seah and Jolin Chiam, producing a sound that feels live and immediate. Wall Street Blues proves that stripped-down, focused rock can still feel modern, energetic, and relevant—especially when executed with such evident love for the craft.
