The Electric Petals Debut “Cherry Red”

Temagami, Ontario’s The Electric Petals have returned with the second single from their upcoming album, Wild At Heart. “Cherry Red” is a laid back sax and bass driven ode to Iggy Pop which channels late 70s David Bowie.

As you listen, imagine finding a dingy alleyway door lit up with red light. Once stepping through the door, you feel energized and free, dancing in a dark room where you can only make out others’ silhouettes.

It’s an experience that is few and far between at the moment, so The Electric Petals wanted to bring that back: the exotic feeling of exploring an unknown city alone and stumbling into a hole in the wall that turns into a classic night.

Rise Carmine Debuts Bold New Track

Rise Carmine strives to find the balance between a well-written song and a dazzling brand of showmanship, between a chorus that you can sing along to and dual-guitar-harmony heroics that harken back to a time of tighter pants and longer hair. The musical outlet of Toronto bred multi-instrumentalist Liam Colbert, Rise Carmine’s forthcoming six-song EP was produced by Grammy Award-winner Dave Schiffman (Weezer, PUP, Vampire Weekend).

New single, “No Coup For Anyone,” is a plea to stop viewing any kind of activism as a signal of someone’s virtue, but also to not view a simple post online as a job well done. The title is a little tongue-in-cheek; obviously most coups throughout history were not born out of good intentions or did not lead to an objectively better form of government. What they do share is action on the part of the people.

 Baëbe Ruth Reveals “Rendez-Vous”

Formerly referred to as Babe Ruth, Baëbe Ruth is a 20-year-old Jamaican/Irish/Native R&B artist from Ottawa, ON. Dimensions of her career include song writing, rapping, singing, and writing poetry – versatility is her strong suit. While music is subjective, Baëbe Ruth tries to place herself in other people’s shoes. When you’re able to do so, the possibilities are limitless.

New single, “Rendez-Vous,” was inspired by an ocean full of emotions, and an unspoken connection that was never acted upon. The song highlights those unspoken thoughts – the things we never have the courage to say but constantly think about.

Bailey Kate Comes Alive with “Care”

There is something weightless about Bailey Kate’s songs – they pass by with a kind of supernatural ease. Timeless songwriting and dextrous arrangements are the cornerstones of her forthcoming debut record, Within / Without. Exploring themes of relationships, community, and existential dread with clear-eyed sincerity, the record is backed by a hot band of some of Alberta’s finest musicians including members of Starpainter, The Moonrunners, and The Silkstones.

Care,” the first single to be recorded by this lineup, is both a reflection and a reminder that self care can’t be left out of the equation when seeking to achieve your goals. Its mood captures a desperate momentum where things are happening at a pace that can’t be maintained long term.

Tarbox Brings Back Grunge with New Release

A heavy and emotional meaning characterizes Tarbox’s new album, Saviors, out now. The post-grunge group, who hail from Montreal, have included “Vulnerable” as the album’s focus track.

This song is an emotive, guitar heavy exploration of the need to feel a glimpse of reality that you can only get through pure adrenaline – even if you know it’ll cost your life.  After several years of working on different projects and touring across Canada, Tony, Simon, Deiz and Jack decided to form Tarbox. Through their post-grunge and alternative vibe, the band manages to give groove and a new flavour to these somewhat forgotten styles. With the help of Dave Traina from The Damn Truth, Tarbox produced and recorded their first album as a band at The FreqShop studio (The Franklin Electric, We Are Monroe, John Jacob Magystery), in Montreal. With a heavy and emotional meaning behind it, this new album offers a wide range of intensity and dynamics. Of course, the band can’t wait to get back on the road and play in front of their fans. Meanwhile, another record is already in the works.

Human Kebab Comes to Life with “The Boardroom”

As one half of Toronto, Ontario’s alternative duo, USS, Human Kebab has seen his DJ career take him across the world over the past-decade. Affectionately known as the “after party before the party,” he scours the world for the best rock and alternative remixes before blending them into an hour-long dance smashup.

New single, “The Boardroom,” originally began to take shape in 2004 while Human Kebab was working a dead end job. The dream of going corporate was starting to fade so he put all of his energy into being the opposite. 17 years later, the song reached completion.
