FORCES Get Witty On New Track

Forces-Press-Pic-7-DJ-credit-Joe-Fuda

Forces became a band in 2017 after the duo closed the book on a whirlwind decade of recording and touring with their former band, The Golden Dogs. That trip took them all over the world to support great artists such as Sloan, Feist, Bloc Party, Libertines, Kaiser Chiefs, Thurston Moore, and more. “Step In A Sway” is the duo’s second single and a foray into layering tracks with metronomic, percussive loops, as opposed to the traditional power-pop approach of recording they were used to.

The name ‘Forces’ implies a literal “joining of forces” between Dave and I, each contributing our power into doing the thing we love to do most: making music, together. But, it’s also rooted in our love of joining forces with our musical community, and our passion for creating experiences for our friends to play and perform together. “‘Step in a Sway’—our second single, but the first we recorded—felt to us like a true departure both in style and attitude. It was our foray into layering tracks with metronomic, percussive loops, as opposed to the traditional power-pop approach of recording we were used to, a bed-track with drums, bass & guitar,” Forces shares. Listen in and listen loud!

Britt is Back On New Single & Video

britt

Britt is the pop alias of acclaimed composer and Emmy-winning actor Brittany Allen. She is self taught in music production, and writes, produces, and mixes all of her own tracks. Britt wrote and produced her new single “Looking For Another” – a synth-driven electro pop track about feeling uncertain about your identity. Britt also co-directed and edited a video to pair with the song, which explores the idea of young women holding themselves to unattainable standards.

Allen is the composer of the indie hit What Keeps You Alive, (IFC) the third film she and partner (filmmaker Colin Minihan) collaborated on, which Allen also starred in. The film premiered at SXSW, was named a NYTimes Critics Pick and one of Rolling Stone’s Top Ten Horror Films of 2018. Allen’s score was released through Lakeshore Records and on vinyl by Burning Witches Records, and was featured on Vulture – alongside some of the genre’s top contemporary composers – Entertainment Weekly and CBC Q. Her second feature score, for the soon to be released “Z” won “best score” at the Sin City Film Festival, and will premiere on AMC’s streaming service, SHUDDER this Spring. A recent write up wrote that “Z’s secret weapon is Brittany Allen, who provides a soul-tugging score and created the unsettling artwork for the film’s imaginary friend.” Allen heads to SXSW again this year to support her most recent composing venture, with the film “Selfie”. Before shifting her sights to music, Allen built a vast resume of work as an actor on both sides of the border. Most recently, she played fan-favorite Popclaw, on Amazon’s hit show “The Boys” from Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. She was also opposite Taylor Schilling in “The Prodigy” and in the latest installment of the cult SAW franchise, “Jigsaw”. Her first two films with her partner Colin Minihan, “Extraterrestrial” and “It Stains The Sands Red” premiered at Tribeca and Los Angeles Film Festival, respectively. After starting her acting career as a kid in Toronto, on shows such as Bomb Girls, Schitt’s Creek, The Listener, Falling Water, Taken, Allen’s first big break in the US came when she landed a regular role on the long-running soap opera All My Children. She went on to win an Emmy Award for her work on the show. Allen is a multi-hyphenate of the truest sense, an artist who is just beginning to show her multitude of colours.

OurGlassZoo Share Spacey New Video

OGZ-2

Vancouver-based OurGlassZoo released their debut EP in 2017 and are following with a new album set for release in early 2020. Lead single “Astronaut” is an electro-rock track that’s been paired with a video that takes place in a futuristic setting, but the concept is most relevant in today’s time.

A fresh mix of electronic rock with a few drops of synth pop are the secret ingredients of the Vancouver-based band ‘OurGlassZoo.” Their debut EP made it to the semi-finals of the biggest on-line songwriting competition (ISC) which featured high end judges such as Lorde, Kaskade, Tom Waits and the late Chris Cornell. The songs ‘Somehow Somewhere’ and ‘Listen’ got radio play in both Italy and the UK in 2018. The new album was recorded at Monarch Studios with Juno award winning producer Tom Dorbzanski (‘The Zolas’) and will be released through Sony Orchard in early 2020. The single ‘Astronaut’ will feature the band’s first official music video, which stars Georgie Daburas from the Netflix show ‘Sabrina’ and Karissa Ketter (‘Kim Possible’), who was nominated for a Joey award for her performance in the video. OurGlassZoo will perform in music festivals including ‘UpTown’ in summer and booked a Canadian tour with LiveActs next year.

Ghost Caravan Get Spooky On New Single

GC-2019-01-12-210_206

Ghost Caravan is a group of collaborators led by Shaina Silver-Baird. Her “ghosts” are what inform the music that she writes. Whether they are the ghosts of specific people, the ghosts of past loves or the ghosts of experience, this caravan of ghosts is the origin of her songs.Ghost Caravan’s new single “Live Out Loud” is an electro-pop anthem for people who feel cast out for being different, for people who have something important to say and for people who want to live in full color and at full volume.

The music itself is orchestral soultronica. The Ghost Caravan live show mixes electronic elements with live instruments creating a sound that is cinematic and invigorating. “I want to continue to push in the direction of personal/poetic lyrics coupled with grand, dramatic tracks. I want to develop the soulful core along with the orchestral element. It’s such an exciting sound–very contemporary and yet derived from something deeper and older. I love how celebratory it is. It’s as if we get to see the world through glasses that make the colours a bit more vibrant and the moments a bit more joyous. And getting to play these songs live with an all-female band is an exciting, powerful experience.Plus, it’s just so damn fun!”

The Informations Get Eclectic with “Strange Habits”

The Informations sound like a 3AM hazy jam between Scissor Sisters and Animal Collective. Their new single and video for “Strange Habits,” has quickly won the attention of our eyes and ears.

The Informations were created out of jealousy in Copenhagen 2009 by acclaimed/award wining Hip Hop/RnB producer Frederik Tao.

The Informations is the moniker under which Frederik Tao – a Danish producer and guitarist – creates timeless, adventurous music that sounds like lost albums from our youth, bands from countries that never existed, melodies and lyrics from our dreams.

As part of a rising scene with his band The William Blakes, Tao was producing hit records and running a successfully record label, but something was missing. .

“I was getting a little frustrated with working within the framework of producing “hits” and all my friends and band mates around me had these cool free spirit indie projects on the side, so I said, f##k it, what if I just try and do my best to do everything what i normally wouldn´t” tells Frederik who began exercise, a way to explore musical languages, while remaining shrouded behind an ever evolving biography of a band that didn’t exist.

Not long after uploading the first tracks onto a mysterious myspace, requests started coming from The Phillipines, USA, UK and basically all over the world. How people found the music was always a riddle to Tao, who saw it all as midway between a joke and a lab experiment. The people who started writing him were few but they were all dedicated, as if they’d found not another good band, but the one band that could overshadow everything else. Their fervor was inspiring.

So Tao decided to do an entire album with some help from two bandmates from The William Blakes, and ended up playing everything on the album from drums, guitar, bass, keys and vocals

Soon after its release in Denmark offers from international high profiled and respected record labels started coming in followed quickly by outrageous offers from European festivals… everything was escalating quickly – For many this would be like a dream come true, but at the same time it felt overwhelming and slightly terrifying for Tao, whos intentions never went beyond the creative exercise. The lab experiment was a success but the results were unpredicted- so everything froze and The Informations became a myth. It would take a decade for the music to resurface again.

Luckily The Informations are still one of the most intriguing voices out there. So it goes with timeless, adventurous music that sounds like lost albums from our youth, bands from countries that never existed, melodies and lyrics from our dreams. All it needs is a listener- all it needs is to be discovered (or re-discovered again)..

The result is really what you hear: An erratic, overflowing and generous treasure-trove of a rock album. With everything you’d want: unhinged solos, highpitched vocals, blustering drum tracks, virtuoso guitar patterns and some of the sweetest melodies you’ll ever heard.  THIS is The Informations

One in a Million: Frank Moyo

DSC06094

Frank Moyo is a slow player in a fast world. His new single “Friend of Mine,” is one for the masses with a gorgeously crafted feel, melody and lyricism to boot.

The Canadian-Italian singer, songwriter and guitarist serenades like a busking bard of the 21st century. His Waves EP and singles “OK Dolce” and “West End” have already cultivated a reputation for Moyo in his hometown. But describing the singer as a suave, smooth and sultry voice with soft hands on the strings is too simple. Discussing feeling with the artist is more candid. “I want people to be able to imagine they are on a beach in Italy when listening to my music,” he says. But while one track might take you to the beach, “another may take you into a car going 180 miles per hour.” Growing up in Toronto Moyo first learned chords as a child, picking up what he could from family, friends and later the live shows he could get into. It wasn’t long until his bandmates and him we’re sneaking into their own performances. With a taste that meanders from Motown to James Brown and Isaac Hayes to Italian icons like Lucio Dalla and Toto Cutugno, Moyo’s sound is hard to pin down. The folk- informed rhythms that Moyo employs on tracks like “OK Dolce” mingle with pop sensibilities and the laws of ancient attraction that seem as rooted in Greek mythology as they do Johnny Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues”. As things speed up in an industry that’s begging to slow down, Frank Moyo is a voice of reason, and it sounds good.
